Cheeky Homemade Hash Browns: A Right Royal Brunch
Alright my fellow foodies, hold onto your aprons ’cause we’re about to dive into a breakfast classic – homemade hash browns. We’re talking about the sort of nosh that’ll make your tastebuds dance a jig. Perfectly crispy, laced with a bit of chilli, and fried to perfection. Top it off with a poached egg, and you’ve got yourself a brunch or lunch that’s posher than the Queen’s corgis.
These blighters are a doddle to whip up at home and are absolutely the dog’s bollocks when served for a laidback brunch or cheeky late-night snack. You won’t believe how bonkers better they are than those frozen monstrosities you’ve been buying.
Preparation-wise, don’t be a ninny and get all flustered. Just whip out your food processor (or a trusty box grater if you fancy a good arm workout) and you’re halfway there.
A Beltin’ Hash Browns Recipe
What you’ll need:
- 4 desiree potatoes – get ’em naked
- 1 large onion – same deal
- 2 eggs beaten – free range, if you please
- A handful of chopped flat leaf parsley
- 1-2 red chillies – finely chopped, mind your fingers
- A bit of the old salt and pepper
- 1tbs olive oil – for frying, no surprises here
Instructions:
- First things first, shred those spuds and onions. Your food processor’s grater blade will do the trick, or you could use a box grater and get a bit of a sweat on.
- Next, wrap the shredded mixture in a clean, dry tea towel and squeeze it like your life depends on it. You want to get as much moisture out as you can.
- Dump your shredded veggies in a mixing bowl. Toss in the parsley, chilli, and a good dash of salt and pepper. Add in the beaten eggs and give it a proper mix.
- Here comes the fun part. Heat up a good swig of olive oil in a frying pan. Plop eight heaps of the mixture into the pan (you’ll need two pans unless you’re making teeny-tiny hash browns). Flatten the heaps with the back of the spoon and let it fry for around 15 minutes over a low heat. This gives your hash browns time to get their act together and hold their shape.
- After a quarter of an hour, flip your hash browns like a pro and keep them cooking until the other side is golden and the centre is warm.
And there you have it, my old chums! A blinding hash browns recipe that’ll knock your socks off. These beauties are perfect for impressing guests, or just for treating yourself to a bit of a luxury brekkie. Enjoy, you culinary maestro, you!
